Storytelling
Storytelling is the heart of Girl Rising’s Education Programs.
Our stories help build understanding and empathy. They are engaging and powerful ways to explore issues around rights, equity, and the value of education. Girl Rising uses stories to introduce activities and spark conversations. Our stories help build voice, agency, and gender-equitable attitudes in millions of adolescents. They help build self-efficacy among educators, and help build allies for girls’ education among parents, caregivers and community members.
Girl Rising Stories
In addition to the stories from the Girl Rising film, we create new films, books, graphic novels, and short form content.
Storytelling Led by Young People in Our Programs
Our programs provide the tools and support for young people to tell their own stories, about their lives, experiences and aspirations.
In India, adolescents participating in our programs develop and perform short plays and scripted scenes, on themes of their choosing such as early and forced child marriage, girls' education, dreams and aspirations, within communities. This form of storytelling increases adolescents’ self-confidence and helps them identify allies to address challenges in their lives.
This year, we are launching our storytelling module, which will guide young people as they explore the challenges they have overcome, the skills they built, and their goals for the future.
