The creative story below is about how a group that someone is part of takes action to create change for girls and women. It was submitted to the Girl Rising Champions of Change Contest, powered by HP. Being featured on this site does not mean that an individual is a contest finalist. All artwork is the property of the original creator.

My name is Kunle Adewale, a visual artist based in Lagos Nigeria. I am using art to empower girl-child to build her potential and become a voice in the world. My Africa4her Art project empowers over 100 girls and young women through art workshop which features spoken word poetry, painting, drawing, story-telling, theatre arts, creative writing, animation, photography, and graphics design to help girls and young women use the arts as a voice to respond to issues that affect them in the society. Africa4Her aims to build up girls so that can build their communities. I believe strongly that an empowered girl is a force of positive change in her community and nation. This is why I am passionate about creating artistic platforms to inspire them.

Through Africa4Her Initiative I provide professional development and mentoring opportunities for girls to create beautiful works of arts. Participants include girls from the slum, marginalized communities, girls living with chronic illness, girls from private schools, college and high school students from ages 6-22 years.

The artworks of the girls at the exhibition feature themes like Child trafficking, Child Abuse, Gender-based Violence, Empowerment, Role Models, Education, Entrepreneurship, Love

Everyone benefits from empowering the girl-child.
