Storytelling
The heart of Girl Rising’s Education Programs.
Storytelling is a unique transformational tool that has to power to ignite movements across the world. In our programs we use stories to build understanding and empathy, to introduce complex topics and spark discovery. They are engaging and powerful ways to explore issues around rights, equity, and the value of education. We also help young people share their own stories, strengthening their voice and agency to inspire change in their lives and communities
Girl Rising Stories
In addition to the stories from the "Girl Rising" film, we create new films, books, graphic novels, and short form content.
Storytelling Led by Young People in Our Programs
Our programs provide the tools and support for young people to tell their own stories, about their lives, experiences and aspirations.
Through the Storytelling sessions in RISE, our flagship education program and through storytelling camps and events, we guide young people through the process of telling their own story. Young people explore their past experiences solving problems, showing leadership, overcoming challenges to discover their strengths and skills. They also explore their future aspirations and identify their communities of allies to support their goals.
Collaborations with Nabu
Girl Rising collaborates with Nabu to help bring inspiring books in mother tongues to young people. “Dance of Courage,” published in English and Swahili, follows the journey of Sam and Kaweria as they chase their dreams and share their talents with the world. Written & illustrated by creators in Kenya with Nabu and HP, the story celebrates the power of storytelling to build courage and resilience in young readers everywhere
