What an incredible celebration we had for 2018 International Day of the Girl!
The evening kicked off with a high-energy cheer by MS 124-Queens students followed by Sokha, one of the inspiring girls from the original Girl Rising film who shared her personal journey. CEO Christina Lowery and Chief Creative Officer Martha Adams spoke about GR's life-changing programs with award-winning actress Yasmine al Massri reading from a sneak-peak of the upcoming GR film on refugee girls--Brave Girl Rising. Jayna Brown of America’s Got Talent performed Andra Day’s stirring anthem “Rise Up” with Athena Perry, a Quincy, MA 9th-grader, closing the program with her Girl Rising-inspired poem Still I Rise.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, demonstrating a commitment to advancing girls’ education and equality here and around the world.
Special thanks to our sponsors:
About Girl Rising
Girl Rising envisions a world in which every girl is equipped with the skills, knowledge and support to be a full and equal participant in society. Our mission is to use the power of stories to inspire girls to go to and stay in school, to create a different future for themselves and to galvanize communities to break down the barriers holding girls back.
