Girl Rising and Global Education Fund are joining forces to launch a four-year venture philanthropy fund. Our fund will seek out and invest in education entrepreneurs who are promoting gender equlity and improving the quality of education for girls and boys living in poverty in Kenya and India.  Improving Education through Smarter Investing

We know that quality education transforms lives for children living in poverty. Yet, systems are overwhelmed, with overflowing classrooms and ill-equipped teachers. Globally, girls face obstacles that boys do not, lagging behind in completing secondary school. Traditional funders are not supporting local, early-stage ideas to address these problems. Annual and one-off grants are not reliable to nurture and grow promising innovative ideas. Social entrepreneurs need multi-disciplinary support, including how to tell their stories of impact.

Global Education Fund

GEF has been investing in local leaders to improve education for children around the world living in poverty for twenty years. GEF piloted its first social impact fund in 2014, testing the concept and its 3-step program to source/select, invest/support and advance investments to exit. It focused on local educators and community leaders with an entrepreneurial mindset, helping them advance their ideas.
